HOSPITALS

Envair microbiological safety cabinets are widely used in hospital laboratories, such as pathology, microbiology and haematology, to give protection against infection to technicians working with biopsy specimens, blood, sputum etc.

Envair has specialised for many years in the construction of hospital pharmacy aseptic cleanroom suites where medicines are mixed and prepared for patients. Such medicines must be free of microbiological and particulate contamination. The work itself is carried out in Envair isolators (gloveboxes). These can be positive pressure, where the predominant requirement is product protection, or negative pressure, where technicians appreciate the additional protection from potential contamination by cytotoxic drugs (for chemotherapy) of unknown toxicity. Lead-lined isolators are used for handling radiopharmaceuticals in nuclear medicine. Envair is the world market leader in hospital pharmacy isolators and now works closely with specialists in hydrogen peroxide gassing systems to provide integrated solutions for high volume production facilities.

RESEARCH LABORATORIES

There are numerous applications in research that require clean air or containment or both. Envair’s unique ultra-safe double filtered Class II microbiological safety cabinets are to be found in cancer research laboratories around the world. Envair’s Class III microbiological safety cabinets are specified wherever research is being carried out into highly infectious diseases, including in military establishments engaged in chemical and biological defence. Research activities in many fields require air that is virtually free of particles. For these applications Envair has a range of horizontal and vertical unidirectional airflow cabinets and enclosures. Other research activities require controlled atmospheres, which may be low oxygen, or low relative humidity, or both. For these activities, Envair can provide specialised controlled atmosphere isolators (gloveboxes).

BIOTECHNOLOGY

As well as cleanrooms, Envair can build containment laboratories to protect the surrounding environment. Specialised isolators, often made of flexible film (transparent pvc) can be designed to enclose or link with bioreactors and other equipment used in biotechnology. PHARMACEUTICAL INDUSTRY

Envair have a wide range of application-based isolators for research, quality control and production, including controlled atmosphere isolators, negative pressure isolators, sterility test isolators and filling line isolators. In addition Envair has the capability to design bespoke units to the customer’s URS (User Requirement Specification). Some activities can be carried out in open fronted unidirectional flow cabinets and these can be linked into continuous lines. Vertical unidirectional airflow enclosures are used to provide clean air over specific areas or equipment and Envair cleanrooms are appropriate for larger areas. Envair has a full understanding of GMP, validation and regulatory requirements in this industry.

Envair also provide solutions in primary production where powders are handled in large volumes. Downflow booths allow sampling and mixing of powders under controlled conditions. Bespoke isolators have been built for the safe offloading, charging, sub-dividing, pre-formulation and dispensing of APIs (Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients) from suppliers’ containers. Simple secure containment isolators have been developed and supplied for valves, such as split butterfly valves, for hoppers, vessels and reactors.
